In this series of micro-blogs our founder, Fiona Thomas, reflects on the blessings in her life.
Don’t believe everything you see on TV.
If you watch The Apprentice it may seem like setting up a business is easy. All you need to do is power dress, tell everyone how amazing you are and use the word ‘premium’ as often as humanly possible. All joking aside, I’m sure the candidates are much more able than the canny TV editors would have us believe.
In real life, starting a business isn’t like that. Yes, it’s exciting but it can also be really daunting.
It’s so easy to feel isolated as you’re carried along by a wave you’re not entirely in control of. One minute you’ve had an idea and run with it, the next you’re trying to deal with complex issues you hadn’t even considered when you first had that ‘Eureka!’ moment.
It’s then (if you have any sense) that you realise you need expert help (and lots of it).
I know it’s not fashionable to say you like experts these days. Personally, I’m thrilled to rely on the small band of experts who help me to navigate Life’s Little Recipes’ course. So, as I count my blessings, I have to say that I’m immensely thankful for the following amazing folk.
First, it’s Rachel and Callum at Strawberry Laces, who helped me set up Life’s Little Recipes. They believed in both me and my idea. Then there’s everyone at Youbee Media, who create all the amazing things with our social feed, Web Design & SEO Company who built and run our fabulous website, not to mention the hugely talented team at Pushed who created our E-cards and the wonderful look for Unimole. Next up, there’s RS Bookkeeping who keep me solvent, Duncan Little who uses PR superpowers to get LLR seen, Chris McGuire, the very creative and patient writer who makes sure Unimole and I put our words in the right order, and the wonderful team Blue Panda T-shirts who gave me confidence for my first meeting with Unimole and supported me as I set sail on this amazing journey with her.
Each and every one of them has blessed my life. I can only hope that, if you’re ever in need of an expert, you can find someone as talented and kind as these wonderful people.
Take care x
Fiona
